Montclair Teamsters Ratify Contract
MONTCLAIR, CA — Teamsters Local 1932 members employed by the City of Montclair have overwhelmingly ratified a new two-year collective bargaining agreement that delivers meaningful improvements in wages, healthcare, and long-overdue commitments to workplace equity.
The agreement includes:
- Cost-of-living wage adjustments.
- Increased City contributions toward employee healthcare premiums.
- A comprehensive classification and compensation study—the first of its kind in more than a decade—to ensure employees are fairly classified and compensated for the work they perform.
The ratification comes after months of determined organizing, public advocacy, and member solidarity.
“This contract wasn’t handed to us out of generosity,” said Teamsters Local 1932 Secretary-Treasurer Randy Korgan. “Every improvement in this agreement was earned because our members stood together and refused to accept the status quo. They organized, they spoke out, and they made it clear that the City needed to invest in the workers who keep Montclair running.”
Throughout negotiations, Teamsters members attended City Council meetings, wore union colors, demonstrated their unity in the workplace, and remained steadfast in demanding a fair contract. Their persistence resulted in an agreement that addresses immediate economic needs while laying the foundation for long-term fairness through a comprehensive compensation review.
For many employees, the classification and compensation study represents one of the most significant victories in the agreement. The City has not conducted such a study in more than ten years, leaving many workers without a modern evaluation of their positions despite evolving responsibilities and increasing workloads.
“Our members fought for every single piece of this contract,” said Korgan. “The cost-of-living increases, the additional healthcare contributions, and the commitment to finally conduct a classification and compensation study all happened because workers stood united. This victory sends a simple message: when working people organize and refuse to back down, they win.”
